5 Tips for Safely Sending Items with a Traveler

LugLink connects you with real community members — but like any peer-to-peer platform, a little preparation goes a long way. Here are five tips to keep your items (and yourself) safe.

1. Document everything with photos

Before handing off your items, photograph:

  • Each item individually
  • The packaged contents
  • The handoff moment

  • This protects you if there's any dispute later.

    2. Check the traveler's profile and ratings

    Look for:

  • Verified identity badge (🪪)
  • Phone verified badge (📱)
  • Previous trip count and rating
  • Response rate and speed

  • Travelers with 5+ completed trips and 4.5+ ratings have an excellent track record.

    3. Meet in a public place

Never meet a traveler in a private location. Public places like coffee shops, hotel lobbies, or airport common areas are ideal.

    4. Use LugLink's payment system

Never pay outside LugLink. Our escrow system holds your payment until you confirm delivery — you're only charged after your family receives the items.

    5. Communicate clearly about customs

Be honest about what you're sending. Travelers need to know exactly what's in their bag. Prohibited items (weapons, excess currency, drugs) can cause serious legal problems for the traveler.

When in doubt, check the customs rules for the destination country.

    What if something goes wrong?

Use the dispute button in your conversation to alert LugLink. We'll review the case and work toward a fair resolution within 24 hours.
